While Netflix’s The Chosen One seems to set up its lead character Jodie as a Messiah figure, the truth is actually a bit more complicated and much darker. The Chosen One is a Netflix coming-of-age show based on the comic book series American Jesus. The Chosen One followed the story of Jodie, a twelve-year-old boy who became a legend in his small town when he appeared to display Christ-like powers. Initially, locals thought that Jodie must be the Second Coming of Christ because he miraculously survived a truck crash that should have killed him. However, soon after this accident, Jodie and his friends began deceiving the townspeople with magic tricks.
